Europe is facing the second wave of the pandemic, a skyrocketing increase in the number of new cases and deaths. Some countries like Belgium, France, Germany and the United Kingdom enact sanitary measures, closing of some establishments and even a curfew for its citizens.
Before everything, it should be noted that a study of European institutions has mapped a mutation in SARS- CoV-2 that has been spreading across the continent. The research that found this mutation has not yet been made available, logo, has not yet gone through the review of scientists, what is essential to validate the findings (Twitter, 2020).
According to another study, also not published in a scientific journal, this mutation probably originated in rural workers, in northeastern Spain and spread across the continent under the domino effect (APRIL, 2020).
The situation in European countries is alarming, Italy had its highest number of deaths in 7 months and France has surpassed 2 million cases of Covid-19, becoming the 4th country with more cases of the virus in the world. Besides that, France ranks 7th among the nations with the highest number of deaths, clearly one of the countries that is suffering the most from the second wave of the pandemic in Europe (G1, 2020).
In an attempt to contain the virus, the Italian and French governments have taken radical measures to restrict. also, Austria recently joined the lockdown. The German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, demonstrated great concern about the uncontrolled spread of the coronavirus in its continent and in its country, emphasizing capital, Berlin.
The numbers of infections are too high, therefore, it is necessary to decrease the contacts, adhere to circulation restrictions and protect the elderly and those with health problems. Putting the pandemic under control, it would be the only way to reverse this crisis in the health area and solve the economic problems.
In short, the scene on the European continent since mid-September is chaotic, forcing governments to take drastic measures. Europeans are suffering from an increase in infections and fear overload of intensive care units (necessary for the most serious cases). Seeing again the need for lockdowns, the financial market did not react well (NEXUS, 2020).
Adding to that, among the population of some regions, there is resistance against the resumption of quarantines, despite the fact that now the measures are being milder than those imposed in the first wave of the virus and that until then Europe had already overcome the disease.
