Donald Trump and the Iranian question: dead end?

The most recent feat in the long “imbroglio” of the United States with the Islamic Middle East has just happened through a “drone”- The “MQ-9 Reaper -, released, by direct order of Donald Trump (D.T.), do only American, in response to the near invasion of the American Embassy in Baghdad, alleged immediate reason. With this, the US achieved the "feat" of killing Iranian general Qassem Suleimani, when he landed at Baghdad airport. And with him other important personalities of the Iranian and Iraqi military establishment.

As we are all informed, Suleimani was not just any general, but the leader of the "mysterious" Force Quds, elite phalanx of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, created still in 1980 - therefore, just a year after the Shiite clergy came to power in Tehran – and directly linked to the highest level of the country's religious leadership. Considered Iran's second highest authority, Suleimani responded directly to the Supreme Leader, the Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was very close to. Quds are not, therefore, any group, but volunteers – almost all men (although there are now a number of female combatants) – who maintain collaboration with the network of Shiite radicals, like Hezbollah, the Hamas, and Iraq's Shiite militias, from Syria and Afghanistan: that is, the "Shiite international".

And what are the root and consequence of this (that Americans apparently never understood)? The root is in the split and in the dispute between Sunni and Shiite currents within Islam, since Mohammed's death, in 632 d.C., and the vacuum that has been created about its political-religious heritage.

"Academic Byzantineness", or an explanation for everything that happened – and it's happening – in the Islamic world since then?…

To better understand this game, let's go to the islam board: Sunnis are the majority in the world. They constitute between 85 e 90% of the Muslim population of the planet, predominantly in Southeast and South Asia, China, Africa and most of the Middle East. the shiites, in its turn, represent only 10–15% of Muslims.. However, they are an absolute majority in iran (near 95% of the population), in iraq (near 75%), in Azerbaijan (near 90%) e no Bahrain (near 70%). count, equally with a significant number of faithful in India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and even Saudi Arabia itself. That is, Shi'ism focuses on the Iran-Iraq region, but it branches all over the Orient (and for the planet). These two currents are deadly enemies camouflaged by the rhetoric of the brotherhood of faith.

The dispute for power in the Muslim world takes place, therefore, between the two great leaders of the two currents: Iran and Saudi Arabia, homeland of mecca, “guardian” of the Kaaba and ally of the Americans. Both architect the strategies of the struggle for spaces of faith and its "internationalization". This explains what is happening across the Middle East. This explains, also, the antagonism and confrontation of the Shiites, both in Iraq and Afghanistan, against the Taliban and the Islamic State – Sunni fundamentalists -, as well as in various parts of the Islamic universe. and explain, still, Suleimani's missions to devise the strategy of Shiite militancy with Hezbollah and Hamas and across the region. This refers to both the strategies against the Sunnis and against the “Western invaders”. Hence the "secretism" of its ubiquitous presence in all events in the Middle East, from the Afghan War to the US Embassy invasion in Baghdad two weeks ago. He was present in all of them… Explain, equally, its excessive and discreet power.

But how dangerous was the man, and your theses? Let's see:

Let's start with a macrocosmic vision: Iran is not just any country, but one of the oldest and most sophisticated civilizations in the world. Even though today Muslim, its roots go back to ancient Persia. This has, sim, importance in the cultural substrate of its population, proud of its history and traditions, pre- or post-Islamic. Is not, certainly, any “republique”, even though it is currently impoverished by the sanctions imposed by the Americans on oil exports, your main source of external resources, as we know. the troubled immediate neighborhood, especially Israel, induced him to develop – "right or wrong" – nuclear research since the decade of 1950, with the help of the americans; by the way, within the “Atoms for Peace” program… Double-edged sword, "aggiornou" its use for "normal" purposes, but at the same time it enabled the country to develop an artifact, this yes of “mass destruction”, if not already - or almost – he did… to "defend" themselves against the Sunni and Israeli siege in the region.

But what could your answer be – “gloomy” (?) - for D.T.. and the americans, for this "infamous" aggression?…

The whole world is in suspense about what could happen from now on. The possible reactions of Tehran to what it considers the shaming of its sovereignty and its faith are worrying.: the demonstrations in iran and iraq are gaining strength, both for and against their governments. There is talk of "war". D.T. , in one more of your bravado, stated that "Iran has never won a war"…Now, the United States didn't win either, at least in the Middle East and Africa. Look to the invasion of Afghanistan, in 2001; to Iraq, in 2003; to Libya, in 2011; e, more recently, to Syria, in 2014. all dropped, except for syria, governments that maintained - for better or for worse - control of the country, and created chaos: Afghanistan and Iraq are ungovernable, under "illegitimate" administrations; in Libya, equally ungovernable, is divided between two leaders who claim their sovereign right; Syria is “Balkanized”, at the mercy of Russian support, and threatened with "losing" the Kurdish region…

It was for this reason, by the way, that Barack Obama sought a nuclear deal with the Iranians, that Trump soon denounced… and harshly criticized. It turns out that the Washington of DT. has a "simplistic" notion of Islamic civilizations. Fruit of its linear and recent history compared to that of the East, Americans see the world in “black and white”, under the ideology of the “American Way of Life” and its Christian positivist values, who intend to inculcate "erga omnes". Now, the East has never seen history – and its lessons – from this perspective. Is it over there, its trajectory and the values it crystallized, is too complex for Americans to understand. (dare I say, to the center of the west…).

Like this, it would not be an ostensible “war”, which the Iranians would fatally lose, that would give an answer to the “martyrdom" of Suleimani, but, perhaps, a diffuse action plan that would create global threats, putting the planet on hold. everything is open, at this time. As commented analyst Michael Doran, do “The New York Times”, "the General's death is a seismic shock in the Middle East"…

Or the worst option: the nuclear threat…

I suggest to friends that they read the Estadão article, below:
